I was frustrated that all the chords I could find for this song were way off so I figured out the
right chords and thought I should share them.
*In the studio version Ed tunes the guitar down half a step, but live he tunes it down a full step
When tuned down a full step what is normally the G string is tuned to D.
When tuned down a half step what is normally the G string is tuned to D#.
So the tuning from the bass string is D#G#C#D#A#D# OR DGCDAD
The DAD or D#A#D# strings are left open throughout the entire song but not played during the verses as he plays by palm muting.
